South Korea’s stationary battery supply chain depends on raw materials, particularly natural and synthetic graphite, 93.7 % of which were sourced from China in 2022. The government has committed to funding investment in the battery sector to expand the supply sources and increase domestic manufacturing capacity (He-rim, 2024) .
The evolution of policies and regulations supporting battery energy storage system (BESS) development, utilization, and sustainability to enhance resource adequacy was investigated. The study examined the role of BESS in mitigating renewable energy intermittency, using China, Japan, and South Korea as case studies.
